Once I wrote a program called Hakix, which aspired to be a sort of Automatix for Debian. It made my life easier, and with 2500+ downloads of the last version, it made some other lives easier too (or perhaps worse, given its poor quality!).

These days I'm a sysadmin and I prefer the command line to accomplish nearly all my tasks (so he says, punching in content on a web 2.0 style website..), so I don't maintain it or recommend its use. However, it's here for posterity's sake, and to demonstrate just how much easier it was to use boolean checkboxes in Tkinter rather than PyGTK. I never did figure that one out.
